So you want to start your own cleaning business. The method can also apply to starting "any" service based business.
Firstly you need to decide what do you want out of it? Are you looking to top up your earnings, are you wanting to be the boss of a large company were you do very little? The reality is, unless you have a large sum of money and can purchase an already existing business you will have to start from nothing. This can seem like an impossibility, but many people have proven otherwise. Unless you are very lucky you need to be prepared to work hard.
In my case, I was working nights in a job I wasn't particularly enjoying (it was actually the management that I wasn't enjoying), I'm the kind of person that likes to be doing something. I originally decided to do some jet washing and upvc cleaning in the day time while still doing my night job. I produced some home made flyers and started posting them through doors in my area. My son who was more computer savvy than me built me a website on our Mac, I also put a free ad in the Thomson Local.
I got lots of phone calls from the Thomson ad and started to clean a few houses on my own. From the website I got a couple of office cleaning jobs. I soon realised that there was a real market for good reliable cleaners.
After 18 months of working day and night I had to make the decision of whether to, keep the financial security of my night job or take the plunge and go it alone. At that time I was still jet washing and cleaning upvc as well as cleaning lots of houses and some offices. I was also employing 2 cleaners who were working in the evenings doing Office Cleaning and Commercial Cleaning.
Thanks for looking, more to follow.
